Have You Outgrown Your Insurance Coverage?

Outgrowing your insurance is often a slow process. Unfortunately the associated growing pains will not be felt until your home, valuables or autos are damaged, or you are sued for a slip and fall incident on your property, only to find out that your existing coverage is inadequate.

Here are a few quick questions to help you know if you may have outgrown your coverage

  1. Has it been over a year since you and your broker conducted an account review?

  2. Do you have a home valued above $1,000,000? How about $3,000,000? $5,000,000?

  3. Do you have a condo valued above $500,000? What about $1,000,000? $3,000,000?

  4. Do you rent a high end home or apartment?

  • Do you own more than $5,000 worth of jewelry?

  • How about single jewelry pieces worth over $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 or more?

  • Do you have a collection of high valued paintings or sculptures?

  • Are you a wine lover? Do you have a large well maintained collection?

  • Do you own luxury automobiles? If so, are they insured for an agreed value?

  • How much of your net worth are you be comfortable leaving exposed to lawsuits?

  • Do you have Liability coverage along with an Umbrella or Excess Liability policy in place with a coverage limit that matches or exceeds your net worth?

  • Do you directly employ domestic workers?

  • Do you serve on any charitable boards?

Did you answer yes to at least one of the first four questions? How about one or more of the bulleted questions? 

 

If so, there is a very good chance that you are inadequately insured.

 

This is particularly likely if you do not currently work with a broker who specializes in insuring high-end properties and valuables with insurance providers that sell policies tailored to your unique needs.
